"Probably shouldn't have but enjoyed the whole…"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

I called 111 when having some breathing difficulties I am a COPD sufferer for probably the last 2 year's. They called me a lesser serious ambulance that takes a bit longer to turn up if it isn't life-threatening and after a couple of hours 3 young paramedics turn up really nice guys made me feel at ease and asked if I would prefer to go to hospital, having experience now of my condition I knew it would be better. I arrived but didn't have the normal wait and was seen fairly quickly after being administered various nebulizers and medications it was decided I wouldn't ge going home after which I spent the evening in the Majors A&E ward, that's a whole new experience in its self. Early morning I was on my way to my first bed and although mentioning throughout I sleep in a chair when my COPD is bad I still had to wait till they found a bed? Off to another ward on the same floor but a bay with 4 beds I found myself with 2 senile old men and a younger male patient who I can already tell is desperate for normal company. I struck up a friendship and we had several chats and bonded a little I was in this new ward for just shy of 2 days being moved a 2 o'clock in the morning when a bed in a more suitable ward became available. I believe me and my new friend were a little gutted but suffering from different ailments it was bound to happen. My new ward Blue Bell 2nd floor bay 5 another 4-bed bay mine becoming available when the previous occupant had passed away, the remainder occupied by a 70 80 and 90-year men who didn't speak a word to each other. Luckily my wife when coming to see me on evening of my arrival had brought me an overnight bag with enough entertainment to release me from this pending bore. What a way to exist, I had no sympathy for any of em as I watched various entertainments on my smartphone with blue tooth headphones. Now to the real purpose of this review the level of care. It made me so proud to watch these various hospital staff go about their jobs especially the nurses the level of care not only I but what I witnessed given to other patients was outstanding. Imagine being asked to clean up a miserable old man of bed saws and openly admitting to messing himself and you have to do it regardless of his moans and yellings with total compassion and care. These people from the tea lady to my personal COPD nurse and of course my Consultant rocketed my admiration of this fantastic hospital. I told the nurse's male and female you are worth your weight in gold. I left the hospital with an abundance of various medicines and an oxygen machine being fitted in my house that very night and a portable unit for work. I already tried to submit a glowing review but used names and that's a not permitted so here is a cleaned-up version. But please, please whoever it concerns praise your staff and make sure they see this because they are simply amazing.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, its feedback like this that makes me incredibly proud of all the team. Please would you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01708 435 454 or by email bhrut.pals@nhs.net and confirm which wards you were staying on so that I can ensure your kind words are passed onto the right team (Bluebell A or Bluebell B) so that they are aware of what a fantastic job they are all doing.
