"Breast care unit"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I was recently offered an appointment at the breast care unit, following an abnormal mammogram result. Unfortunately, I was told I had breast cancer. On the first appointment, I was extremely anxious, however, the staff were open, honest and very positive about treatment options. Even though I knew I would have the diagnosis confirmed by the consultant the following week I felt extremely fortunate to be looked after by a team who instilled confidence and showed compassion and exemplary care.

Barney, the consultant mammographer, Di, the health care assistant and the nurse practitioner in the ultrasound department were incredibly professional and showed considerable care and empathy. I then met Donna and April the breast care nurses who were so supportive. Mr T, the consultant, also made me feel very positive.

I was admitted to Branston ward for surgery and I was looked after by Steph who was so kind and caring. All of the team were very professional.

Walking down to the theatre was very novel and unexpected, however, the theatre team were great and I felt secure.

I am now awaiting the results from the operation, however, I cannot thank the team enough for the superb care I have been given so far. My mammogram was Nov and my surgery took place in December. How efficient is that!

Despite the huge distance I had to travel,  I am so pleased I am under the care of this hospital. Thank you so much
