I have glaucoma so when faced with a swollen eye, pulling at the corner of the eye and constant lightning flashes and headache I knew I had to have it checked out. I tried for 2 days to contact BMEC to do the traffic light triage. I also tried two triage opticians, chemist and then my GP for a referral. No one would help. GP reception sent me to Russell Hall GP led clinic who passed me to A&E with a blood pressure of over 200, who tried to ring BMEC, couldnt get through so said just get there. BMEC reception turned me away said 7 hour waiting time then the triage nurse appeared. Thank you, you put me straight on to the end of a current clinic who checked my retina had not torn and gave me advice. The triage nurse also gave me pages of triage opticians to wade through to find one qualified to help my particular condition. Overstretched, overworked solid professionals doing there very best. I am not sure that the new system of dealing with urgent and minor eye conditions is working as all roads still seem to lead back to City Road.
"Thank heavens for your hard working triage nurses"
