"Care and support while on ward very good"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Surgery (Ward 5)

(as a volunteer/advocate),

Ward 6

Care and support while on ward very, very good. Nurses very helpful, ask patient if he needs help. Patient given some helpful advice and time spent re recent surgery. Much appreciated by patient.

On first explanation of condition, patient struggled understanding all aspects of it, but on second explanation he understood. Doctor has provided plan ahead for patient which he understands. Medication arrives on time during the day, but at night sometimes it can be delayed a bit. Less staff available at night.

Patient’s wife had difficulty with result of surgery and how that was being dealt with. Discussion between stoma nurse and internet research by wife another option was found. This seems to be working for patient. Specialist Viability nurses checked took dressing from wound and decided how best to proceed but did not re-dress or tell ward nurses to re-dress and patient left for an hour without help.

Buzzers can take a wee while to be answered.

Shower wall showing mould. Issues with which set of cleaning staff clean this particular room on ward.

Dear Uhh181 (as a volunteer/advocate),

Thank you for bringing the issue with the shower wall to our attention. This is something that should not have happened.

I will ensure that this is corrected.

Regards

William

Dear Uhh181,

Thank you for your recent post on Patient Care Opinion, Despite you having some challenges throughout your stay, I am happy that all of the multi disciplinary teams are finding solutions to some of the issues. Sounds like you have had a bit of a journey, whilst in hospital.

The nursing staff, doctors and Specialist Services always strive to deliver the best person centred care to patients whilst in their care. I will certainly feed back to all of the teams your post, and all aspects of your journey.

Hope you are still recovering well.

Best Regards

Karen
