"Appointment over the phone call system"

About: The Lawson Practice

(as the patient),

I just literally can't get in touch with my gp doctor. I have to stay ages on the phone till someone will answer and tell me that they are very sorry but don't have anything available and I can call Monday. Sorry but I have already had 3 days of being stuck in bed house with a nasty flu and 2 kids which are sick and vomiting all over the place and 40° temperature and you telling me to call on Monday?

I'm so sorry you are having this trouble. If you feel that your problem can't wait, you can tell the receptionist this and they can ask the duty doctor to speak to you. We have a duty doctor that can deal with emergencies available every day. Many patients have health problems that can be dealt with very effectively over the phone, saving the patient a journey OR have problems that can wait a day or two and are better dealt with by their own doctor, ensuring continuity. There are always going to be patients who have more urgent needs and this is why we make sure we always have an 'emergency' doctor available for these situations.

If you wanted us to review what happened please let our reception manager know and we can see if there are ways we could have improved the information you are given. It is so helpful when patients are able to do this as we can really learn from these events being looked at more closely.
