The nursing and doctor staff that saw me were sensationally good. Patient, concise, understanding and all while working under such difficult services. I attended A&E after being advised by the on call doctor on 111 - there was no out of hours service in my area (Mindless austerity cuts). My condition was not one that in a country not ravaged by An assault on the NHS and other public services should not have been addressed by A&E; nevertheless the triage nurse was immediately aware of the pain I was in so for me painkillers while I waited to see doctor. After 4.5 hours I did and he was brilliant - immediately assessed my problem, understood the level of pain I was in ask gave me both sensible advice (which had not been given by inept GPs) and the medication I needed. Every member of staff - despite clearly being understaffed and working in conditions where they were dealing with a constant stream of patients with ailments like mine that were stopping them attending to the seriously ill people in the beds that were the ones really in need of their attention and working to the soundtrack of a guy in mental health crisis screaming about killing himself while surrounded by 4 police officers for hours (again the police and A&E dealing with issues that should be being dealt with by specialist mental health or social services that have been decimated by years of neglect by the government).
These staff are incredible - I’m emotional thinking about what an amazing job they do (this may be the painkillers)
we don’t know how lucky we are to have an NHS staffed by these dedicated people
and all free at the point of access. It’s time to stop the rot in our health and social services. We will miss them when they’re gone.
Thank you to the heroes of Worthing A&E
"Incredible staff working in difficult conditions"
