She was sent home as the hospital was very short of beds, into the care of my husband and myself as her husband had just died as well. We felt very concerned, didn't know where to turn for support and deeply worried. After a considerable time we were put in touch with Dementia Outreach and they made a huge difference. They came to speak to my sister and they treated her with respect and great understanding. They also advised a change in her medication which lead to her being calmer and more relaxed. My husband and I also felt much more reassured and less lonely.
After many months we were advised that Social Work should have been involved with my sister immediately after being discharged from hospital. However it was a long time and after many phone calls that someone from that department got in touch
The Social Worker was less than helpful and If it had not been for the care and support of Angela, my sister, my husband and myself would be desperate and at a total loss as to how we could move forward and get the best possible care. As a result of Angela's hard work, care and consideration, my sister has now been moved to a facility which, for the time being at least, she is getting treated with dignity, respect and great individual care.
We cannot thank Dementia Outreach, and in particular, Angela Kane, enough for her professional care for my sister but also, the support and encouragement she provided my husband and myself
