I visited a particular doctor , I had an emergency appointment which I was amazed to be able to get on the day and while I did have a 25 minute wait to see her it did say it on the board in the waiting room which is very helpful. Once in to see the doctor I found her very thorough and understanding of my reason for the emergency appointment and could also understand why the dr. does run late as she spent a good 10 minutes trying on line to book my a hospital referral which I had been trying to do since October and had been unable to get any appointment on line through the system which is nothing to do with the drs surgery . She reassured me and while at that time she wasn’t able to book me an appointment as there didn’t seem to be any available on line even for her she did give me a form which allowed me to try 4 hospitals to try and book my own appointment. As it was when I got home and phoned the NHS appointment line myself she actually had booked me a hospital appointment for January even though it had told her the appointment was taken by someone else . I then had to attend the next day for another emergency appointment and again saw the doctor and again she treated my problem seriously and said that I was right to book an emergency appointment and gave me a prescription. I did feel very fortunate that I have been able to get an appointment 2 days running and I did ring up promptly 8 am as soon as the drs was open . While you are not able to normally book an appointment so quickly I have also benefited from having a telephone consultation on the day with a Dr. at the practice who also acted quickly and I was able to get a 2 week fast track hospital referral .
