About: Homestead

My 14 month old son, has now been misdiagnosed with two different Illnesses at two separate times here. The first we were told he had a viral infection when I went in saying he had conjunctivitis. The doctor said it wasn’t that and that he had a viral infection and to wipe his eyes with water. 5 days later the infection was so bad that my son couldn’t open his eyes because the light was too bright for him and we took him back and asked to see another doctor who said oh yes he needs some eye drops. When we went to get them we wasn’t allowed them as he was under 2 years old!!

The second time, we thought he had chicken pox but being a first time mum, I wasn’t totally sure so I wanted to see a doctor for their opinion. Shock I couldn’t get an appointment and the “rude” receptionist (same one both times) said to me “it looks like chicken pox, I would take him to the pharmacist for them to give you some cream and antihistamines and it will clear up in 7-10 days” so me being a first time parent presuming that’s cause chicken pox is so common, I did as she said. (Also, when on the phone or in the doctors she didn’t ask how old my son was and he wasn’t with me when I went in he was asleep in the car with his dad, so for all she knew he could have been newborn and really ill). It’s now been 3 days later and he is now suffering from severe hand foot and mouth disease and had to be prescribed antibiotics for infection and inflammation! When we told the receptionist what had happened later that day she said “oh I think I know who it is, she shouldn’t be telling you a diagnosis she’s not a doctor or professional I will file a complaint for you”. We were told he needed an appointment on Monday by the walk in centre doctor & shock “you can’t make an appointment unless you ring at 8am on the day” and everyone who goes to this doctors knows, unless you get 1st in the list by time it’s your turn even when you’ve been hold for half hour waiting since 8am “there’s no appointments left” ridiculous. I can understand sometimes there are non left, but it’s amazing how some days you can book in advance and others you can’t. I was told he needed to be seen Monday. So looks like we’ll be back at walk in centre for hours again to make sure he’s seen!

Dear Patient,

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. I would very much welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss the several issues you have raised in person so we can look at any errors that have occurred and how we can address these.

If you would like to call the surgery on the main number I will be happy to discuss this further with you.

Regards

Sarah
