"Poor service, long wait"

About: York Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a friend),

My friend had a car accident and broke his fingers. He had an extremely hard pain, his fingers became blue and swallen. When we came to York Teaching Hospital (Emergency Department), the staff said, it is not an emergency case, however, we called 111 before and they said that we should go to Emergency Department and we will be seen without any queue.

Receptionist said that we should wait for 4 hours. We asked at least for pain killers. We were treated with indifference regarding our problem, we spent 5 hours there, and nobody was able to at least state the waiting time.

Thank you for letting us know about your experience within our Emergency Department. Please accept my apologies for the lack of information you received and for your long wait. We should have communicated the wait time to you better and been more sympathetic to your friends condition. Sadly as this feedback is anonymous I am unable to action your comment further. Should you wish to raise this with the Emergency Department, please get in touch with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01904 726262 or pals@york.nhs.uk.
