I am a nurse and I escorted a patient to an appointment today for a scan. The patient in question was extremely nervous about this scan and from the moment we arrived at the nuclear medicine department we were welcomed by a smile from the kind receptionist who was extremely helpful and we were seen promptly. The department was busy however everyone we came into contact with was smiling. The procedures were explained clearly to not only the patient but us as staff escorting and this helped alleviate the patients anxiety. A special mention to the health care assistant Michelle who was fantastic and went above and beyond, continuing to reassure the patient and make them aware of the timings of everything and what was going on. Michelle continued to check on us as staff to make sure we were ok as we were in the department for a few hours. Michelle then provided the patient with food and fluids following the scan which they greatly appreciated. Michelle is a credit to your department with patient centered care being at the forefront of her practice. A fantastic experience.
