"Kept waiting"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My wife took ill on a flight back from Holiday. We contacted NHS 247 they told us to go straight to A+ E.We seen the Triage nurse then waited for 4 1/2 hours and she still hadn't been seen she felt that tired and ill she pleaded for me to take her home. Has this what our health service has become, you kept waiting that long you give up and just go home.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay your wife experienced when she attended the A&E Department at University Hospital Hairmyres. We have experienced high volumes of patients attending the A&E Department, but endeavour to treat all of our patients within a reasonable timescale and provide information and updates to all patients at all times.
