"Lacking in knowledge for apparent specialism"

About: Salford Royal

Recently visited the endocrinology department at Salford Royal for a checkup on a long-term diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I credit the NHS for good turn-around in appointment times. However, it seems to be because of the lack of care of one of the Doctors in the endocrinology department. Despite having a specialism in chronic fatigue, he claims that I could improve simply by building up my tolerance by going on a few runs. Anyone with any background in CFS would understand how useless this 'advice' is. The Doctor had no advice for any of the issues I raised after I shared my concerns about my future career with a 9-5 job (drastically different from my current situation) or my recent dose of antibiotics and the negative side-effects of these, offering no help or having seemingly no interest.

The recent departure of a previously amazing endocrinologist in the department has left a massive hole in a once-helpful department. I can only hope the student doctor watching took no tips from this 'specialist.'

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments at what must be a worrying time for you.

We are very sorry to hear of your experience in the Endocrinology Department as many of the points you raise fall short of the care we expect you to receive. The Trust strives to provide patients with excellent care and experience and so are very sorry that we did not achieve it for you on this occasion.

We hope to reassure you the Northern Care Alliance takes concerns such as yours seriously, so if you are not completely happy with the response then we would encourage you to contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at your earliest opportunity. Telephone 0161 206 2003 or email pals@srft.nhs.uk quoting that you have been advised to do so via the NHS Website and they will do their best to address your concerns.

Kind regards

The Patient Experience Team
