"Dangerously long waiting list "

I want to first state that not all responsibility is that of the clinic and is in fact a result of cuts to services, that does not however, negate the neglect. I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, amongst other things, and I have been diagnosed as having complex ptsd. After finally getting this diagnosis I was eager to make a start on therapy, this was in 2016, it's now the end of 2019 and I still haven't started!!! 6 months to get a referral letter through the door, a further two months until appointment which was a surprise group appointment just informing us of the process. Assigned a person who is my point of call during my wait time and got an appointment with her after 3 months of waiting, she takes holiday and doesn't inform me or cancel the appointment so I rock up and she's obviously not there. Two years after being on the waitlist, I have to do 8 weeks of group workshops where we discuss ptsd symptoms (it's really not healthy to put traumatised people in the same room together). I had a follow up appointment where I was informed that they had moved me onto the actual therapy waitlist now and I should hear something soon but I haven't received any letters and that was 6 months ago. This whole process has taken three years!! How is this allowed to happen.

This feedback is really concerning. Something has gone seriously awry along the way here. I am so sorry that you have had such a poor experience so far. Posts on NHS Choices are anonymous so we cannot contact you to get more details so could you email us on: elft.communications@nhs.net and we will forward it to the team manager for immediate action. Thank you for posting your feedback. It is how we can learn and put ourselves in the shoes of others. It will be useful in training and give an insight into how it feels to be handled in this way and the importance of small details - like making sure you tell service users about leave and re-book the appointment. You are at liberty to make a formal complaint about what has happened. There is information on our website about how to do this: https://www.elft.nhs.uk/Contact-Us/Complaints-Comments-and-Suggestions Please don't give up. Email us so that we can find a way forward. Best wishes
