A couple of months ago my father who is 95 woke us at 6.30am on Day 4 of our holiday near Kelso. He had become increasingly sore following a fall 2 days earlier and was asking us to phone for an ambulance to take him to hospital. Although we felt he should get checked over we didn't feel he needed an ambulance, but he didn't feel up to a half hour drive in the car. After a call to NHS 24 it seemed that phoning for an ambulance was the best option.
The paramedics were very helpful - did their usual checks and re-assured us about calling them out, before taking us to the hospital. The staff at Borders General were very patient despite having a busy morning. Dad got checked over, had X-Rays and ECG and was seen by an occupational therapist and given a walking aid before being allowed home.
We really appreciated the re-assurance from the paramedics that we had done the right thing in dialling 999, and the attention received at Borders General on what was a very busy day for them.
