"Professional and friendly GP"

About: Borders General Hospital / GP Out of Hours (BECS) NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter came home for the weekend from university with a 5 day history of a sore throat and feeling generally horrid. On the Sunday morning she felt worse so I called 111 and this resulted in an appointment with the BECs service at the Borders General Hospital. We were seen on time by a very professional and friendly GP by the name of Gordon. He gave my daughter a thorough check up and prescribed her the appropriate antibiotic treatment for tonsillitis. He also advised about a follow up with her own GP is she is not improving due to being at university and the risk of glandular fever.

We were very grateful for the advice and treatment she received in such a timely manner.

I am sorry to learn your daughter has been unwell. Tonsillitis can be painful and can make patients feel pretty miserable so here's hoping she's doing much better.

It is good of you to take the time to share your story on Care Opinion. It sounds as though your daughter had a seamless journey through NHS 24 and Borders Emergency Care Service (BECS) and received the required care to manage her symptoms. From what you have shared, Gordon, the BECS Out of Hours GP, has an excellent person centred attitude, which is great to hear. I am sure he will be delighted with your feedback.

Thanks again for getting in touch. It is always great for us at NHS 24 to hear what happens once a patient has ended their call to 111. I am pleased overall your daughter received excellent care.
