"Failure to have diabetic bloods tested two months running"

About: Harborne Medical Practice

(as the patient),

I am needle phobic so don't sleep the night before blood tests.it has to be taken from my hand.the nurse went right through the vein extremely painful n no blood taken.

I went to surgery following week stood for ever in queue n asked for particular nurse who I have confidence in. The receptionist said they would give me appointment with nurse from Russell's hall to take bloods.

I turned up after no sleep again all night as I'm needle phobic. The nurse said they couldn't take blood out of hand I was really very upset more so because I had asked for particular nurse who works at the surgery n had done before. When I asked receptionist for form to take to local hospital where I'd been before to take bloods they said they couldn't, that I had to go to Russell's hall which is in a different town n county Staffordshire. This is just about as ridiculous as it gets.i still haven't had my blood test. The receptionists at this surgery were very unhelpful n did not show very good attitudes to the patients.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on NHS choices. I am sorry to hear about your specific experience. If you want to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact the practice team directly. We know that the fear of taking blood can be difficult for some patients. With that in mind are staff are trained to help in these situations. Despite the best endeavours of our clinicians it is not always possible to take blood whether they are supplied by the practice or the hospital that perform the laboratory testing, Russells Hall. This is a short drive away in Dudley (not Staffordshire) only 30 minutes from the practice and offers a walk in service for blood tests Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm. We feel with the option of in house blood tests (which is not offered by all practices) and a walk in service at a local hospital allows patients flexibility when choosing to book.
