My husband presented to GP in March 2019 with symptoms of tingling and numbness in both arms that had started at the end of 2018. Referred to spinal clinic at Yorkhill where he was seen in August 2019 and was advised he required surgery.
10 month waiting list.
Staff skills
Commenced physiotherapy around July at Milngavie Clinic. Symptoms got progressively worse over the summer and a review at the spinal clinic was arranged by the physiotherapist for late 2019. On attending a routine physio appointment in October. The physiotherapist recognised his symptoms had worsened significantly and referred him to A&E at Queen Elizabeth.
From the moment my husband was referred to A&E I have nothing but praise for the professionalism, skills and kindness shown to him. An MRI on the Monday was followed up by a review at the spinal clinic in November. The consultant and all the clinic staff were superb and reassuring. Following pre op assessments, my husband was admitted for neck surgery and transferred to Ward 10B prior to discharge the following day.
I wish to express my gratitude to all involved in my husbands care, especially his physiotherapist, consultant, outpatient staff at Yorkhill, A&E and theatre staff at QE and the staff on Ward 10B for the excellent care he received, which has already made a significant difference to his wellbeing, 2 days post surgery.
Waiting list times need to be urgently addressed.
Although classed as non urgent, my husbands symptoms deteriorated significantly in a short period and greatly impacted his on his ability to carry out routine activities of daily life. Hopefully this surgery has been carried out in time to prevent further nerve damage, due to compression, and he will get back some of the strength and feeling in his arms and hands that had been lost and will be relieved of the pain.Team work
