"Poor communication and poor discharge planning"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

My mother had orthopaedic surgery only to find out post surgery that she would not be able to use her arm for 6 weeks. Unfortunately the nurses and physio staff were confused amongst themselves about this period of time, within the space of 3 days it went from one, to two the six weeks. Communication from the hospital has been poor despite my valiant attempts at communicating with them, as they plan to discharge her with little to no care in place to be able to meet her needs with the use of one arm. Very disappointed at the level of communication and poor planning from the hospital.

We were sorry to read of how disappointed you were about your mothers care and the mixed communications you received. If you wish for us to look into your comments please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01322 428382 or email dgn-tr.pals@nhs.net.

We hope that your mother is recovering well after her surgery.

Kind regards
