"It's a great place"

About: St Lukes Hospice

(as a service user),

Suddenly got gall bladders at the start of 2018. Went to Northwick Park Hospital 7 times. Found I had an infection I the ribs. I was recommended to come to the hospice by the McMillan Nurse. Been coming for 1 year.

Staff, therapies (particularly the massage), and the place are so good. Food is nice but I can't eat much as I get nauseous. The activities and exercises are really great. I really appreciate the transport and being picked and dropped off.

I really can't think of anything the hospice could do better.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of St Luke's Hospice with Care Opinion.

As a hospice team we work hard to support people to live well with their illness. This can be anything from improving symptom management or helping people to feel more confident and independent with day to day activities. Each plan is individualised to the patient's issues, goals and priorities and is achieved by working together with complementary therapists, physiotherapists and the medical team.

I am pleased to read that you consider the food to be nice, however it is unfortunate that nausea affects your ability to eat too much. Nutrition and hydration are important in improving physical and emotional well being, the hospice team recognise that for many people their symptoms can affect their ability to enjoy food. The catering team are key to the day to day running of the hospice, the team work hard to ensure that the menus are varied and presented in a way which is not too overwhelming.

As an organisation St Luke's Hospice is fortunate in that it is supported by a large group of committed and dedicated volunteers, this includes volunteer drivers. Without the help of the volunteer drivers many people would struggle to attend the hospice.

I will pass on your comments to the rest of the team.
