"Poor ward care"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

Caring gynae/oncology care from surgeons/ specialist nurses and theatre recovery staff. Let down by Rowan ward staff especially night staff. Lost my notes, no idea I’d just come from surgery. Actually told me they didn’t know what was wrong with me! Taped over my emergency buzzer because it kept ringing, so I couldn’t call for help. Left my water jug out of reach and wouldn’t pour me a drink even though I had just come from theatre and couldn’t move. Visitors allowed to stay, until I complained at 10:30pm about them shouting on their phones and eating around patients bed. One nurse told them I’d complained. The patient then shouted and swore at me. In panic I txt my relative who works for Barts Health, she phoned the ward and said she was making an official complaint. I was then transferred to another bay in Rowan ward. While moving me the nurses were discussing how they may get in trouble due to the complaint. This is why they then acted . Not for any care towards their patients. The excellent care I received from the specialist team in gynaecology was wiped out by the appalling attitude of the night staff in Rowan ward. They are failing in their duty of care. This isn’t an isolated incident, my daughter had a terrible experience after a c section- she rang the emergency buzzer when her newborn began vomiting and she was unable to move quickly as in a bad way after caesarean. No one came! She struggled in tears to reach her baby and stop him chocking! I was told the next day that no one responded because the nurse was on her break! I insisted that a member of the family stay with her the second night as the staff couldn’t be trusted. It is disgusting that people trusted to care for vulnerable mothers, babies and the sick are knowingly left in a position of responsibility by managers who know they are failing.
