"CAMHS Poor Service"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services – Community(City)

(as a parent/guardian),

My experience is that CAMHS has failed to support their patient and constantly fail to listen to concerns and seem to make up events to distract attention from the poor clinical support offered.   NICE guidelines are not followed and young persons under there care are put under pressure to try and get them to make up stories.

Counsellors, I feel are unprofessional and even male counsellor felt it off putting talking to a yong person in need of crisis support when they had phoned from the bathroom for privacy.  I felt the counsellor was inappropriate with their comments.

I feel that for 3 years, a young person in need of post trauma support has been neglected, subject to bullying behaviour and told they do not have a mental health illness.   Counselling support has been ad-hoc and not consistent and overall diagnosis has been refused with misleading verbal comments never followed up with the GP.   Overall, do not recommend any young person to the CAMHS -my view is that they are a disgrace to the NHS.

To help people that receive one of Notts Healthcare's services have a say in how they are run.

Hello Foxland - Sarah Bonney and Rebecca Stevenson have asked me to post their response to your posting, as they haven't access to Care Opinion at present. I'm really keen that the right feedback gets to the right place so just want to check with you whether this is regarding Targeted CAMHS (ask Lion) which is Nottingham City NHS or the CAMHS service from Nottinghamshire Healthcare?

Please see response below.

Dear Foxland,

We are really sorry to hear that you have had a negative experience of CAMHS. Our staff work hard to ensure we listen to the voice of children, young people and their parents/ carers within the service.

Our staff are trained in evidence-based therapies and are skilled in different communication methods. If any discussions have felt inappropriate we would want to hear about this to ensure we can address these concerns appropriately.

Without further details of the situation it is difficult to provide more specific feedback, we hope that you feel able to contact us directly to discuss these concerns on 0115 8440500. We welcome feedback, both positive and negative, to help us to improve the service.

Again, we apologise if this has been your experience of CAMHS. It does not reflect the standard of care we work hard to provide every day.

Regards,

Sarah Bonney and Rebecca Stevenson, Community CAMHS Team Leads

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
