"Top nurse"

About: Conquest Hospital

I am writing to praise one of your nurses who was in attendance when my granddaughter came into A and E a week after her birth with breathing difficulties.

This exceptional person is, I believe, a staff nurse in this department. I cannot name her because of the hospitals policy but I have written to her personally.

I first met this amazing person when she was asked to come to the waiting room by my daughter to calm down a tearful grandmother (me).

This nurse was so understanding of my emotional state and talked through the situation regarding my granddaughter in a calm, professional way which gave me total confidence. She told me what to expect with a tiny baby hooked up to tubes and wires. After I had calmed down, I was asked to join my daughter and granddaughter who was being examined and treated by several health professionals but it was this nurse who stood out as not only working so efficiently with my daughter's baby but also keeping an eye on her exhausted mother and suggesting that she needed to sit and breast feed the baby for a while.

This busy member of staff was so impressive and so informative keeping us up to date with all decisions and movements.

I was so grateful to this nurse and it has left a lasting impression on me of how wonderful a person she is and the service she provides. She definitely goes the extra mile and we cannot thank her enough.

By the way, baby, mother and grandmother are doing fine..........thank you

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such wonderful feedback following your recent attendance to the Emergency Department at Conquest Hospital with your daughter and granddaughter; we really appreciate it. First and foremost, we are delighted to learn that your granddaughter, not to mention her very worried mum and grandmother (!), are all fine now. And please accept our belated congratulations on her arrival; may she bring you and all of your family many years of memories and happiness.

The Trust works hard to provide a high standard of care to all patients, and ensure their relatives have confidence in the staff and services caring for their loved ones. It is therefore extremely pleasing to read that not only did you witness and have a very positive experience of care, but that one particular member of staff met, and exceeded the values we seek to deliver; the fact you felt both assured and comforted by staff is wonderful to hear, and that your daughter and granddaughter were so very well cared for by a professional and dedicated member of staff reassures us that we are getting patient care right.

In times of worry and distress, patients and their relatives need to have complete confidence in the staff providing their care, and we are very proud of the care and treatment you and your family received. We would also like to thank you for taking the time to contact the member of staff who cared for you all to express your gratitude; at the end of a long shift, your kind words were no doubt exceptionally appreciated by them.

We will ensure your generous praise is shared more widely with the management team in the Emergency Department so they can read, and be proud of, the care provided. We wish you, your daughter, your new granddaughter and all your family good health and happiness – and a wonderful first Christmas for your granddaughter too!
