"They came to the rescue of my family"

About: Community Mental Health Services / Dementia Outreach Team (DOT)

(as a carer),

After many months of trying to get carers into my mum and dads place-due to my dads ill health and my mums dementia and cancer- the dementia crisis team came to the rescue of my family. After them seeing how stressed my dad was with having to care for my mum, they wanted to step on and take them both out to get them the fresh air and break they needed. I am very grateful for this team- and would like to thank them for all their hard work

Thank you so much for posting this feedback.

The Dementia Outreach Team is a relatively new part of our service, and as with all new things we need to be sure that what seems like a good idea in theory actually translates into helping patients and their carers in real life. It’s extremely helpful to get feedback such as yours so that we know we are doing the right thing.

Everyone working in mental health services know how devastating conditions that affect the brain and mind can be, and we really want to make a difference when we come to work each day. To know when we have been able to help is fantastic. I will make sure that your comments reach all staff in the team.

I wish you, your family and your loved one all the very best for the future.

Dr Jim Crabb

Consultant Psychiatrist & Associate Medical Director for Mental Health services, NHS Forth Valley
