"Poor Communications - Repeatedly got the phone…"

About: King George Hospital

My son was due to attend for CT Scan today on his kidney as he has kidney stones. He started being sick a short while before he was due to attend, possibly due to the antibiotics he is on for a severe infection. So we thought it best if he didn't go as he has to take some liquid before hand and he would only sick that up. We tried ringing the phone number we were given, however all we kept on getting after about three minutes wait was the message "the other person has hung up". We tried repeatedly and also tried the main switchboard number and they put as through but we repeatedly got put back to the switchboard, who were very patient and re-tried to connect us without success.

The NHS makes a big thing about people not attending and the costs of this which I agree with, but when you try to make contact to explain the situation you can't get through. Perhaps the trust needs to provide an alternative communication method that doesn't need to be manned, such as an email or a mobile number that patients can text into in this sort of situation.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, I am so sorry to hear about the problems you encountered getting through to the department. I would urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service so that they can look into the concerns that you have raised and try to establish if there was a problem in the department on the day you were attempting to contact them. The PALS Service can be contacted on 01708 435 454 or by email BHRUT.pals@nhs.net. The PALS service will do all they can to help you. Once again, Thanks you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback.

Kind Regards
