"Extremely disappointed with the Booking Services…"

About: Cheltenham General Hospital

Spoke to the supervisor from central bookings team who refused book a follow up appointment because I missed a previous appointment which was not my fault as I was undergoing rehab with Combat-Stress. As a veteran who got injured in Afghan while serving HM Forces, the booking team completely ignored the Armed Forces Covenant Act to provide medical services t injured veterans at the time of need. The Consultant issued a 6 months open appointment since March and I was still within that period to get an appointment. Utterly disappointed with the disregard from the booking team regardless of the fact that the injury was sustained from the services. I had 3 knee surgeries from the same consultant. The last time I had to complain after I was mistakenly discharged for no reason and this time they won't even let me speak to my Consultant's secretary and get an appointment. Injured veterans deserve a lot better than being kicked about when in need of medical attention.

I am disappointed to read your comments and apologise that you were not able to get another appointment.

The Trust.has been accredited as a Veteran Aware Hospital due to our recognition of serving and veteran personnel and it does seem as if we have fallen short on this occasion.

Next Wednesday, we have a training session for further Trust 'Armed Forces Champions' and during this, the Covenant will be explained and the issues faced by service veterans and their families will be discussed and highlighted. These Champions help to convey to all departments that armed forces personnel do have specific needs which we must be aware of and factor in.

If you would like to contact one of the Armed Forces Team who may be able to assist you further either now or in the future please email ghn-tr.armedforceschampions@nhs.net. Alternatively, if you contact our PALS department on 0800 019 3282, they may be able to contact the booking office on your behalf.
