"they went to great lengths to take care of me"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Stroke Care

(as a service user),

I spent 3 days in Ward 3E ( Stroke Unit), Crosshouse hospital.  My stay was vastly improved by the staff who looked after me during my stay.  They are clearly understaffed ( and overworked), despite this they went to great lengths to take care of me and my fellow patients. Great standard of care, ensuring our medical needs were met and explaining what was happening & what would happen next.  I saw nurses cleaning and making up beds but I dont think this is how they should be spending their valuable time. They are trained medical professionals, not cleaners or dogsbodies.

Dear quebecct68,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback via Care Opinion. Being in hospital is such a difficult time and it is great to read that your experience was improved by the care you received. Every member of staff works very hard with an aim of providing the best possible care.

As well as all the technical aspects good communication is key. I am glad you found this to be the case. The team will be delighted to read your feedback.

As a receiving area we have a high number of admissions and discharges. It is essential we ensure a clean bed space and equipment for each patient. Currently this is undertaken by nursing staff. Within some wards in Ayrshire and Arran there is a Housekeeping Service which includes bed-making and cleaning of patient equipment. This service has proven to be beneficial. There is no doubt this role would be extremely valuable in a busy receiving ward. Your feedback has been very helpful and will facilitate discussion around this.

I hope you are now feeling better and on the road to recovery.

Best Wishes,

Christine
