"Apparently the staff have breached DPA for over…"

About: Kirkburton Health Centre

I am writing this review with a heavy heart. I have been a patient at this surgery all my life and have appreciated the care I have received.

Recently this surgery has seriously gone down hill.

I gave verbal permission (face to face) in early 2018 for my wife to have access to my medical records and to discuss test results and medication on my behalf.

Since then she has discussed these matters regularly until there was a problem with my repeat prescription which she tried to rectify.

The member of staff refused to speak with her as my consent had expired in September 2018.

Neither of us have been notified of this.

I find it hard to believe that nobody in over 12 months has noticed this.

I have to admit I am not particularly bothered but a serious breach has occurred and I am concerned how many times this happens.

The member of staff I spoke to regarding this was polite and helpful but clearly did not acknowledge how serious this kind of behaviour is.

Ironically she (my wife) was given some of my test results only a matter of days before she was told she no longer had my permission to discuss matters on my behalf.

I have been trying to make a routine appointment regarding an ongoing issue with anaemia and my Asthma.

For the record I also suffer with PTSD.

Basically I am being as flexible as I can but there does not appear to be any flexibility from the surgery.

I spoke to the same member of staff this evening who I spoke to regarding the removal of my consent to try and book an appointment for 2 weeks time only to be told the next routine appointment was 3/12/2019.

Even when I explained why I needed to see a doctor the staff member seemed disinterested to say the least.

Once upon a time if I said I was struggling with my Asthma I was given an appointment as soon as possible.

I was given the option to call the surgery at 8 am if my illness was an urgent issue.

Surely if it was an urgent problem I would have gone to hospital.

I wonder how many people abuse this policy. I am guessing a lot.
