"Our family will be forever grateful"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Gastroenterology Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Paediatric surgery ( Wards 3A & 3B)

(as a service user),

My daughter was diagnosed with NEC at 3 days old and due to small holes in her bowel lost parts of her intestine. This resulted in a stoma being formed.   Her reversal was not straightforward and we had a failed attempt due to her bowel being too short.

The surgical team dr bradnock and his staff were persistent and tried out another option ie   pull through method   so my daughter would have a normal functioning bowel.   They were persistent over 2 years in getting us to the point we are now at.   The operation was successful and I would like to thank all the surgical team as she is now doing so well thanks to the care they have provided her. They always worked for extremely long hours in theatre and were open and honest about   what was happening and any problems they could foresee in the near present or   future.

She is now a fully toilet trained albeit cheeky 3 year old which is way beyond what we imagined for her when she was 3 days old being operated on or even when they were attempting reversal. We did not imagine things would work like as well as they have done.

We would also like to thank MS Lee for creating the stoma and saving her life at 3 days old and the quick actions of the hospital that night   once she was transferred from the royal. We cannot   fault the care our daughter has received from staff on ward 3B recovering from her operations from the auxiliary nurses to the pain control nurses particularly Magaret. Our family will be forever grateful to the surgical team and staff   at the sick kids in Govan and cannot thank them enough for what they have done for our family and especially for our daughter.

Dear Lmu01111

Thank you so much for letting me know about your good experience while in hospital with your daughter. This means so much to the whole team involved in her care and I will share your thanks with all involved, including Ms. Lee who cared for your daughter as a newborn baby.

I am delighted to hear your daughter is doing so well.

best wishes,

Gael
