"Ambulatory Care was excellent but the room was too warm"

(as the patient),

I spent 4 and a half hours in this department yesterday and whilst my overall experience was excellent, I do wish to raise one matter. 

The waiting room was very small. The room was too warm and the receptionist had a very bad cold and cough.

I feel that it was completely inappropriate for member of staff to be working in close proximity to the patients, several of whom seemed very unwell. 

Given that the average waiting time to see a doctor was more than 3 hours,I felt that it was unfair for everyone to be exposed to staff member's germs.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment on Care Opinion as we value all feedback that we receive. I am glad that your overall experience was excellent, I am really sorry that you were sitting in an area where a member of staff had symptoms of a cold.

I have discussed this with the WHH Infection Prevention Control department and have been advised that they will look into this case specifically and assess. The advice was that, although they would not rule out staff working with a "common cold" as colds are everywhere, they do take symptoms of influenza extremely seriously and would not expect a member of staff to be on duty, if she was displaying symptoms of influenza.

The individual will be assessed today and if the symptoms are from a cold, the "Catch it, bin it, kill it" education message will be re-enforced.
