"When there's no hope....."

About: East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust

I live in Long Eaton Derbyshire and have been struggling with my mental health for the last year, the last 6 months I have been in crisis.

I have issues because my GP is in Nottinghamshire and I live in Derbyshire. I do not want to give my GP up as if it was not for his constant support the last year I would be all on my own.

This postcode lottery causes, everytime, hours and hours of trouble for you guys getting me the care that I need because both counties are arguing over who should fund me. The outcome I always end up with no mental health services that I greatly need.

What has been apparent to me on the times I have been in crisis and saw no other way out than to end my life, you guys have been there for me throughout and each and everyone one of you have got me through to this day. Last week I needed you you 3 times, 2 requiring a ambulance. Although each time because I know the outcome I ask not to waste the paramedics time and not to send them out to me.

EMAS are my guardian angels. They make me feel safe and I know they genuinely care for me. When I am alone in the world, scared and do not know what is happening to me because of my mental health, those guys go above there duty to help me out.

So, this is a big massive thank you, for each and everyone of you who help me through these dark days. Without you I would not be here.

Hopefully this goes someway in letting you all know how grateful I am and that I will be forever in your debt.

God bless you all.

Hello Riki,

Thank you for sharing your kind words about your experiences with us through NHS Choices. I am so pleased to hear that ambulance crews have been there for you when you have needed them, and I do hope you are feeling better now.

If you are able, we would appreciate you sharing your comments with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team, with as much detail as you can (e.g. date, time and location), so that they might identify the crew who cared for you and share your words with them. You may contact them via telephone on 0333 012 4216 or email emas.pals@nhs.net.

Best wishes,

Samantha Westwell
Ambulance Operations Manager for Derbyshire
