I had attended A & E late on Saturday night some 4 days previously as I was experiencing a little pain in my chest. The hospital felt it could be costochondritis and gave me co-codamol. On the following Thursday, feeling no better but not really feeling ill, I contacted my GP surgery, Horndean Surgery. I gave the receptionist brief details, and received an appointment for 10.00 am that day. I attended Horndean surgery, not aware I was really ill, just the odd twinge, and saw a GP at the appointed time. Within no more than 5 minutes the GP called an ambulance and she explained to me that my oxygen levels were low, and that I needed hospitalisation for further investigation as a matter of urgency. This resulted in a diagnosis of empyema and keyhole surgery to wash out the bacteria. I attended my GP surgery again today to thank the Dr for her prompt and highly professional attention, and she explained that I had presented as very grey faced, and although I was not familiar to her she knew it was more serious than I considered. I advised her that I felt I was somewhat lacking in remembering the fine detail and she advised me that was due to the lack of oxygen. I am pleased to say that I am now half way through the time for full recovery, and the Dr is pleased with my progress. In addition, I am a carer for my partner and, whilst I do not usually have to call on the surgery for myself, I regularly attend and accompany my partner. We have always been more than impressed with the service that has been provided, the time the Drs give to listen to concerns, and their giving plain and simple explanation where it is needed, and the administrative staff. I really cannot praise all of them enough.
