"I don't feel like I am taken seriously"

About: Borders General Practices

(as a service user),

I don't really know where to begin...

...I am a registered patient with this practice, and over the years I have noticed a complete lack of patient centered care.

It has taken me up to 20 minutes to speak to a receptionist, which is mainly due to having to go through multiple options before being placed on hold to speak to a receptionist. When I finally get through to the reception staff they are unable to provide me an emergency appointment for that day as this is no longer a service they offer. When trying to get the next available appointment it has been 3-4 weeks away.

I feel that when I do finally get to the date of my Dr's appointment - after waiting 3 weeks i feel as though i need to get as much out of my appointment as possible and try and get as many of my ailments addressed. I have been told that I only have 10 minutes and so they only have time to sort my most troubling ailments. To me they are all troubling.

I have asked to speak to the on call doctor and after describing to the receptionist my issues and waiting to be called back, I was reprimanded by the on call doctor as they didn't know why they were having to call me regarding my issue as it wasn't something the on call doctor would be dealing with - if that was the case the receptionist should have said. i was left feeling embarrassed and that my issues just do not matter at all.

I cannot begin to tell you how much I dislike having to organise appointments for my health. I have began to get anxious as I don't feel like I am being taken seriously; I feel like just another inconvenience to the GP whom I am seeing, yet I have no option other than to stay at this practice due to catchment areas. I feel trapped and I no longer deal with the Health Centre unless I have no other choice.

I should have a right to change my Health Centre however I am unable to. I need to have an appointment with a GP who is not focused on their appointment times

I believe it is crucial for patients to feel like they matter.
