"Confidentiality"

About: Change Grow Live / Cheshire East Drug and Alcohol Service

(as a service user),

I was specifically informed at every session I attended ( I did not miss any) that whatever was spoken about during the group was confidential unless the facilitator felt that someone could be a serious risk to his/herself or others.

In which case they would be obliged to pass the information onto their colleagues at CGL (they were contracted apparently by Emerging Futures).

Unfortunately due to a group discussion regarding a recent non related meeting it emerged that this in fact was not the case. The staff member made notes about each of us at ”check in” and these were discussed with the members of CGL.

When challenged about confidentiality and the Data Protection Act they seemed to have little or no knowledge of the latter!! plus no acknowledgement or apology was made for misleading the attendees with regard to protection of their very personal and private addictions.

Needless to say I am extremely upset and very distressed about this matter and would therefore like all my information eradicated with immediate effect.

I shall not be attending CGL / Emerging futures again and intend to copy this letter to the East Cheshire Trust

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Firstly, please allow me to apologise for any distress that you have experienced in relation to the concerns that you have raised.

CGL and Emerging futures work in partnership with each other across Cheshire East to deliver the substance misuse service. Both organisations follow the same strict confidentiality agreement which is in line with Data Protection legislation and the General Data Protection Regulations.

The service utilises one confidentiality agreement which outlines how and where your information is used when accessing the service. This agreement should be completed and fully explained with everybody when accessing the service. Please accept my apologies if this was not fully explained to you when entering the service.
