When I became unwell and phoned my GP at Cathcart Street in Ayr. I was given an appointment to come in a short time later. I saw Dr McKenzie who examined me throughly and decided I need to be assessed in hospital. The ambulance came within 20 minutes and took me to Crosshouse Hospital Combined assessment Unit taking less than thirty minutes despite heavy teatime traffic. This was all very quick and reassuring for me. When we arrived at the CAU they were busy and had no bedspace so I had to wait 90 minutes to be taken through which seemed a long time given the urgency with with events took place up to that point. The ambulance crew stayed with me throughout my wait and were very reassuring ( Lynn and Graham) Once I was in the CAU bedspace I was dealt with very quickly and admitted to ward 3E. A very busy ward with staff dedicated to their patients and I was monitored closely overnight. I had further tests in the scanning department at 9am and was seen by the consultant Mr Ghosh by 10am with results.
This was all very fast and smooth process apart from the wait in CAU for a bed. All credit to the Stroke Team and charge nurse Sommerville at Ward 3 E. This was a positive experience with a good outcome for myself.
