Brought in by ambulance at 8am on a Saturday Morning after I damaged my back at home. Ambulance crews were excellent, brought straight into the emergency room, no wait!, and staff there quickly did a batch of tests and sorted out my admission.I was seen by doctors who were personable and efficient, several tests and X-rays were carried out and got the results back shortly afterwards.I was transferred to AMU and kept in overnight. Excellent nursing staff looking after the patients, very caring and willing to talk and help if they could (even if they are very busy all the time).
Overnight the AMU ward nurse was available promptly if called, and dealt with medications and obs efficiently. It was a bit noisy on the ward due to other patients (to be expected really).
Next day I was able to go home with a speedily arranged visit from Physio, and supplied with medication and aids.
Even the food was hot, tasty and good quality!
I also saw good practice in the ward (100% handwashing, ward cleaning, surface sanitisation etc) even though I was only there for 1 day.
This is the first time I have had to use the 999 service and this hospital, and I have nothing but praise for all the staff I saw, and the treatment I received. The only improvement would be to shorten the initial wait for an ambulance, I had to suffer excruciating pain for 3 hours until one was available.
