"A real life saver!"

About: Derby Walk in Centre East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust / Emergency ambulance Royal Derby Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

Dropped in to the walk in centre on a Saturday morning with chest pains. Nurse practitioner quickly (and correctly) diagnosed a heart attack. On the spot treatment alleviated the pain within minutes. Emergency ambulance ride to The Royal Derby and a subsequent in-patient stay of a week with a stent fitted.

Marvellous care - a real life saver!

Good morning,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and for your kind words regarding your recent experience at the Derby Urgent Care Centre. However, before I can share your comments/feedback with the team I need to ensure that it was DHU Health Care that you were seen and treated by as there is another provider within the same location called One Medical Group who provide the 8am - 8pm Walk In service.

If you are uncertain which service you were seen and treated by on this occasion. If you supply me with your details via our dhu.patient-experience@nhs.net account I can then cross reference that against our system. If seen by us I can then share your kind words with the team and if not DHU I can ensure that they are passed to the other Care Provider.

In the meantime I hope you are recovering well and feeling much better and I wish you the very best for the future.

Kind regards,

Judith Brown

Dear Worried Golfer,

Thank you for sharing your kind words about your experiences with us through NHS Choices. I am so pleased to hear that my ambulance crew were able to help you by transporting you to Royal Derby Hospital, and I do hope you are feeling better now.

If you are able, we would appreciate you sharing your comments with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team, with as much detail as you can (e.g. date, time and location), so that they might identify the crew who cared for you and share your words with them. You may contact them via telephone on 0333 012 4216 or email emas.pals@nhs.net.

Best wishes,

Update posted by Worried golfer (a service user)

Hi

A few more details below and, again my grateful thanks to the nurse practitioner at St Oswald's, Ashbourne and the ambulance crew who cared for me and transported me to the Royal Derby. They were all stars and their prompt and efficient treatment probably saved my life.

I had a minor heart attack in October and attended the centre at St Oswald's at around 11am. The nurse practitioner saw me very quickly and diagnosed a heart attack. She called an emergency ambulance which arrived within about 30 minutes and the 2 crew members took over my care, did their tests very efficiently and re-assured me at a very worrying time. They decided I needed to go to the Royal Derby and transported me there quickly and comfortably and waited with me until handing me over to the hospital staff.

I'm sorry to say I didn't get their names nor was I able to thank them properly in person as the were needed for another call almost as soon as they had handed me over.

I subsequently spent a week in the Royal Derby and had a stent fitted (awaiting another!) - the cardiologist told me that the prompt treatment on the Saturday had been very beneficial and that without it I would almost certainly have had a major incident within a month!

Almost back to normal now, playing golf and walking again. Once more my sincere thanks to all involved in my care.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to everyone.
