Arrived 7.30 am for triple bypass.
Prepped up and ready to go by 8.30 told 2 on list and sitting in day ward.
At 12md enquired of our nurse prep lady regarding op time but she was unable to help.
Again enquired at 2pm still no info then told bed meeting at 3.pm.
At 4pm our surgeons no 2 told us op cancelled due to lack of intensive care beds.
An elderly lady on her own was also told at this time that her op was cancelled.
I find it difficult to understand why we did not receive any Information from the surgeons at least after 12md when they must have known their days time span.
I fully appreciate that emergencies and problems will happen but it should be acknowledged that patients and relatives are sitting around worrying about their loved ones.
A further point I must make is that this Day ward seemed overstaffed perhaps it was just a quite day but from about 2.30 onwards upto 6 staff would be social chatting behind the reception with one nurse actually sitting on the desk.
At one stage four lady staff members were looking g at a computer screen and discussing dresses displayed.
Not totally there fault with no work but it also appeared no supervision. The lady looking after refreshments and tidying up was doing an excellent job
"Poor communication from surgeons to waiting..."
