"Disappointing breast screening appointment"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Breast surgery

(as a service user),

I was told by my GP that the breast screening appointment would be a "one stop shop" appointment.   When the 2WW appointments team rang me I checked that this was the case and they confirmed it would be, subject to availability of a radiologist. After an examination by the consultant, I was told I would have to come back for a mammogram.   I felt the consultant did not show any care/compassion when I expressed my concern about (a) having to wait further to find out results and (b) having to come back for another appointment which means taking more time off work.   A very disappointing experience.   If the "one stop shop" service is not available, tell GPs and patients before they come to their appointments.

Dear Disappointed and angry I am sorry that you have had a less than satisfactory appointment. Can you please contact me directly by email as I need to understand why you did not at least have your mammogram on the same day. It is not always possible to perform an ultrasound and mammogram on every patient on the day they attend clinic as this is dependent on the numbers of patients seen in the clinic and the clinical priority of those patients presented. I believe that the information sent to all patients advises all patients that they may not all be seen direct from clinic on the same day.

If you have had a different experience we need to look at why this has happened and ensure this does not happen again. Once again I apologise but please can you contact me to allow me to look into your specific case.
