"Bad practice "

About: Darent Valley Hospital

The worst experience

Took my 1 year old to darent valley paediatric a&e. He was very poorly with a high temperature and floppy.

I was made to sit there for 4 hours waiting. In the 4 hours there were 5/6 children that came after me seen to and gone which I had no problem with.

It’s only when I went to enquire how much longer I will have to wait seeing I had got there in the morning at 10 o’clock and it was after 1pm and was told they don’t see patients by order of arrival and that they treat the most ‘unwell’ children first.

I was infuriated by that statement because there was kids (that came after us) who were well enough to be playing in the play area and even fighting for toys who got seen to before me yet my baby who was not even well enough to play or open his eyes was made to sit and wait for 4 hours while the ‘unwell’ children who were playing and even making noise got treated first despite coming in after we did.

It’s pathetic to say the least.

Thank you for taking the time to write this comment. We fully appreciate how worrying it can be to have a poorly child.

Everyone who attends A&E, either adult or children, is triaged on arrival and patients are seen in order of emergency. We understand the wait can be frustrating, but please remember that waiting times can differ between treatment areas and specialists, so other people may be called more quickly than you.

We do hope your child is feeling better now.

Kind regards
