"Outstanding"

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital / General surgery

During my first ever admission into hospital via The A&E route back in July ‘19, where I had a 5 day stay and dx with Acute Cholecystitis, the staff were amazing and caring - all of them, from the cleaner on the Cobham ward (NHS patient), the ladies who take your food orders, the nurses who take care of your needs and meds, the HCA’s to my consultant surgeon .. He knows his business, I had no problem being in his care, straight down the line, knew how to get

On top on my issue, and put me forward for 12 week urgent op for removal of gallbladder.

9 weeks later I’m back in for my procedure, yes I did have to wait a while for my surgery on the day, yes it was uncomfortable, yes I was becoming impatient within myself... but not any of it was there fault... when u sit in the surgical arrivals waiting room, bare in mind I was in at 11am, where they had already siphoned through the 7am arrivals, you really see a true picture with the amount of patients they deal with probably on a daily basis. The volume is incredible and by 3pm I was actually thinking my operation would be cancelled. But no... I was seen by all of my consultants team individually, all of them explained thoroughly what I could expect... then by the time I was gowned up and ready and waiting in the theatre lounge the surgeon came to see me, asked how I had been doing etc, nice touch! I knew at that point he was gonna do a good job. In I go for anaesthetic, lay on the bed.. bless the ladies trying for what seemed liked forever to find a decent vein, still putting me at ease, woke up in recovery and yet another cheerful lady looking after me, fabulous lady in fact, nothing was too much trouble, she explained everything to me and why I was still in recovery again putting me at ease. saw the surgeon and his team the following day and released from hospital.

So thank you to the surgeon and team, minimal pain and tidy work, thank u nurses, thank u all for the care you gave me! I truly wish you the very best of luck in your careers and keep up the great work!

I had a good experience but for those who don’t, just have a think about what the staff have to work with, what there daily dilemmas are.... they are in that job for a reason, to care and help people, they are not there to make it more hard for us, but they are limited to what they are allowed to do, and I’m sure given a chance if they could they would all go above and beyond.

Please pass on my thanks to them all!
