"Felt like a nuisance"

About: Wexham Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I was admitted via A and E, the ward itself is wonderful and modern but the care was abysmal. As a nurse myself I was shocked at the treatment.

I told there was ‘nothing wrong with me’ even though i was sweating and shaking and vomiting. I was crying my eyes out by myself in the bay and ignored. Aren’t the staff supposed to be compassionate and caring? The poor lady next to me was told to stop moaning so loudly because she was disrupting other people, she was moaning because she was ina lot of pain.

I felt completely invalidated and like I was making up how I felt despite clinically being in a bad way.

There were also inappropriate discussions between staff on the other side of my curtain. I’m not sure why they thought I wouldn’t be able to hear what was being said.

Awful level of care, we nurses don’t do this job for the money, we do it through sheer passion. I felt like A nuisance and didn’t dare ring my call bell for assistance.

I am very sorry you have received such a poor experience, we should not be treating patients like this at all and this is not what I would expect. If you remain an inpatient please can you ask to speak to the matron about your concerns, we have a matron on 7 days a week and we want to ensure we get it right for our patients so please let them know the exact issues then we can act on these?

Yes hello I have been made aware that you have been to PALS, the matron is also aware of your issues, so will leave your concerns for them to answer
