"Hospital admission with heart attack"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Cardiology Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Cardiology & Coronary Care Unit Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service

(as a service user),

In September I attended the ED at the Borders General Hospital with chest pain. The excellent nursing and medical staff saw me immediately, treating me with great kindness and quickly diagnosed that I had sustained a small heart attack. I was admitted to Ward 6 where, throughout my stay, all staff gave excellent care. When I was seen by members of the cardiology team my planned future management was explained fully and clearly and when I had to be transferred to the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh the ambulance paramedics and staff nurse from ward 5 could not have been kinder in the professional care provided. All staff, whether doctors, nurses, health care assistants, porters, paramedics were genuinely caring at all times.

Hello

Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know about your experience in both hospitals. It is nice to hear that your experience was a positive one and the transfer of care from the BGH to RIE went well and I hope you are now recovering well.

Here in Cardiology at RIE we aim to ensure this is the case and it is a real boost to staff to know that we are doing what we set out to do despite the busy workload in our ward.

All the very best for the future.

Sara

Senior Charge Nurse

Dear Cardiology Patient 62

I am sorry to hear that you recently suffered a small heart attack, however I am delighted to hear that you received excellent care from staff in the Emergency Department (ED), Ward 6 and Ward 5 at the Borders General Hospital (BGH) at which I am sure was a worrying time for you.

I will ensure your positive feedback is shared with staff in ED and the wards. Staff greatly appreciate hearing directly from patients and their relatives as it is a great boost for morale.

Thank you for using Care Opinion to share the details of your experience and I mean this in the nicest way that I hope you don't require to visit the BGH or Royal Infirmary Edinburgh again soon!

I hope you have now fully recovered from your heart attack and wish you the best for the future,

Regards,

Karen
