All ID staff friendly, welcoming and I could see made a huge effort to put people at ease. The appointment was very thorough but also compassionate. Specialist nurses separately checked that I had fully understood what the doctor said and next steps. Phlebotomist was very approachable.
In comparison the general hospital environment was quite different .... renovations clearly going on which is positive but the new lifts are too bright, shiny and not appropriate for people with sensory sensitivity/autistic spectrum which I did not think was well thought through.
Also when leaving the hospital I was approached by a charity volunteer who asked me to agree to set up a direct debit! I understand the NHS is stretched and I definitely value it but this made me worry about vulnerable people. When I explained this I was told that I didn’t look vulnerable because I smiled! The volunteer then went on to tell me about a relative with cancer who had struggled to get an NHS appointment. In my opinion this is emotional exploitation for financial gain and should never be allowed in a caring setting, particularly in the public services.
"Thorough but also compassionate"
