I went in on Saturday for gallbladder removal, via keyhole surgery.
Following the preliminaries, I changed into a hospital gown & joined my husband in the waiting room. I become quite anxious 'waiting around' and having my husband by my side helps. Anyway, whilst we were sitting there, a nurse passed by & uttered "Diane, you need to go to the female waiting room". I didn't say a word, but the nurse clearly saw the look of panic on my face and followed up with "oh, don't worry. Follow me & I'll find a room where you can wait together". How kind & thoughtful was that?
In the Anaesthetist's room, they were so patient with me and were actually cracking jokes & making me laugh, in an effort to calm me.
I spent 2 hours in recovery where all the nursing staff were so happy, friendly & attentive.
A further 2 hours were spent on a ward, where it was explained to me in a very caring manner that I would not be discharged until my feelings of nausea & lightheadedness had passed, even if it meant keeping me in over night.
The treatment & care I received during my time in North Mid, albeit only nine hours, was excellent.
And .......... I'm recovering well.
