Recently got a right heart cath, which was daunting. Not only did I have to wake up really early, it was my first stay (just half a day) in hospital. I was not well prepared, as all the other patients (mostly older, who may have had previous experience to rely on) were quickly changed into their own nighties, dressing gowns and slippers, which I had never even thought of bringing with me! Jane did well to notice this early on and offer me everything I needed, without me asking. Jane checked on me often and offered reassurance for the days events. It seems like a small gesture, but it made a world of difference to me as I haven't spent any time in hospital and had no idea how things usually go.

I also want to praise Scotty and David (I think, he wears a tartan radiation protection and his wife like the band Toto) for my not so painful cannula, moreover thanks to them for spotting that I had 'Monster veins' in my arms that were potentially suitable for the catheter entry. What a massive difference this made! Elaine approved this and explained that going through the arm was ideal as the recovery time was must less than entering in through the top of my leg. I was grateful for this as I was back to normal the next day, just had to keep an eye on the needle wound.

Another thing to note, I love the fact that during the procedure my favourite music was playing! Although I was sleepy, it was comforting to hear the great tunes of Toto in the background.

Thanks you to all involved in the cardiac Day unit, I don't really want to come back (lol) but if I have to I know I will be met with kind and caring people.

Dear Dancing Daisy

What a lovely post this was to read. I am so pleased that Jane made you feel very comfortable and reassured you at what is a worrying time, especially as you have never had to stay in hospital before. I will be sure to pass your compliments onto Jane, Scotty, David and the staff in the Cardiac Day Unit as they will be delighted with such lovely feedback from you.

I hope you are continuing well from your procedure.

Regards

Paula
