"My stay following a riding accident"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Trauma and orthopaedics South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a service user),

In early September I had a bad fall from my horse and ended up in resus with chest and spinal injuries. I then spent a night on CDU and then was transferred to Wellington wards higher care unit. The care I received throughout my stay was second to none. The paramedic who treated me initially even came back to check on me at the end of his shift. I was so impressed by the care and compassion shown to me by all the teams involved. I felt safe and well informed and my pain was effectively managed with the help of the pain team and critical outreach nurses. The nurses on Wellington ward were brilliant, so kind and nothing was too much trouble. My medication to take home was organised effectively and I had everything I needed with no fuss or hassle. I am on the road to recovery now but I wanted to say thank you for caring for me so well in what was quite a traumatic and difficult time.

Dear Horseygirl,

My name is Jane and I am the Clinical Matron for Emergency Care.

Thank you for your very kind comments and feedback regarding your recent hospital stay. It sounds as though you had a really traumatic time but I am glad that throughout the whole of your hospital stay it seems that you were treated with safe, effective and compassionate care which is what we aspire to.

I will feed back your comments to my areas and am grateful that you took the time to post these comments for the Trust.

I hope you are recovering well and that you will soon be back riding your horse.

Kind Regards

Jane
