"Superb day to day, but communication is important"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I fell awkwardly and tore the tendons on my right leg also broke my left wrist the ambulance arrived promptly, the start of my first ( at the age of 74) of the full NHS experience. The ambulance crew were fast and effective taking me to the A+E who were also fast and effective and I can only say from there on in resus and ward 33 the attention that was

fantastic. My only concern would be the waiting for surgery which took a further five days with fasting each day in the hope action and no contact with doctors or surgeons. The ward staff were superb with day to day needs but communication is important especially when a patient is in a single room and feels isolated.
The second concern was the delay waiting for patient transport required as my leg brace did not allow access to a car this wait extended to more than two and a half hours in temporary wards. I do understand that the hospital had a busy day but it still seems rather long.

Dear Fiero

Thank you for sharing your comments and feedback on care opinion.

I am sorry to hear that you felt isolated in a single room and that the communication could have been better prior to your surgery. It is disappointing that you had a long wait whilst awaiting patient transport. I am happy to discuss your experiences and concerns with you. You can contact me on 01592 643355 ext 29779.

I am extremley pleased that the attention you recieved in ward 33 was fantastic. I will share this post with the whole orthopaedic team.

I hope you are making a good recovery.

Andrea

Dear Fiero,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback with us all on CareOpinion. I am sorry to hear about your fall and subsequent fractures. I do hope that you are now on the road to a full recovery.

I am however pleased to read about our staff and how they were fast and effective, recognising the requirement to get you to the wonderful people in the Hospital. And it is lovely to read that on the whole the experience was positive in a very busy environment. I would encourage you to take up Andrea's offer to have a chat as it is always good to discuss these things.

Again I hope your rehabilitation is going well.

Kind Regards

Alan
