"Delay in diagnostics"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as a service user),

I have congenital cardiomyopathy. My daughter is too young to consent to a genetic test as there is a 50% chance she will have this terrible disease. This disease can trigger dangerous arrhythmias - specifically brought about by exercise. It was recommended by the specialist that my daughter should have and echo and ECG. This was documented in a letter sept 2018. A year later, this letter has come to my attention and there were no diagnostics ever organised for my daughter. I have tried to find out who was to blame- the Lanark doctors or Wishaw general. Both parties are blaming the other.

Dear Twinkle5678,

I'm sorry to hear of the delay in diagnostics being arranged for your daughter. This is clearly an anxious and frustrating time for you; given that you've be in touch with your doctors, I trust that arrangements are now underway to rectify this.

If not; could I ask you to return to your GP for a referral to the relevant service. I'd also recommend discussing your concerns with the Practice Manager at your surgery regarding the breakdown in communication that has led to the delay.

Kind regards

Rick

Thanks for the reply. This is an anxious time for us all. It’s important my daughter gets the correct monitoring. At present there has been no resolution as to how this lack of communication manifested- however, I’ve requested a meeting with the practice manager.
