"Waited hours to be seen then told unit closing..."

About: Hemel Hempstead Hospital / Accident and emergency

We arrived at Hemel Hempstead Urgent Care with our daughter in extreme pain due to an adverse reaction to her medication. There was a 3-hour delay posted on arrival. We waited for several hours before we were seen by a triage nurse for assessment. She took all our details and then told us that the doctors would not see us as they finish at 10pm and close the unit. Given that they took so long to make the assessment and must understand how the unit works, they should NOT have admitted us and asked us to wait when they KNEW we could not possibly be seen. This is appalling and a complete failure of management. We will never go to Hemel again.

We went to Watford, (as dis a number of other people) and were triaged within 20 minutes off arrival and seen by a lovely doctor who sorted her out within 2 hours. The care at Watford was fantastic and caring.
